NFL Recap – Week 8

The Canadian air did the Buffalo Bills good this week, while Tim Tebow didn’t show any of the predicted confidence as he was fed to the Lions. Throw in a surprising upset by the Steelers and Cowboys that looked far from the ranch, and you got yourself a great week in football this week!
St. Louis 31, New Orleans 21
The New Orleans Saints were heavily favored to win this one and what a huge upset it was! Steven Jackson helped break the Rams’ losing streak as he had 25 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns. The Saints on the other hand, were slow and didn’t have much of an answer for the Rams. Drew Brees tried to step up for his team, passing 269 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions and was no match for the Rams’ defense.
Buffalo 23, Washington 0
This blowout was a big one for Redskins’ head coach, Mike Shanahan, as it was the first one he’s ever lost in his career of 267 NFL games. This game was all Buffalo though, as QB Ryan Fitzpatrick passed for 262 yards, among which were two passes thrown to tight end Scott Chandler, who used them to score two touchdowns. But Buffalo’s defense kept up their end of the deal too, sacking QB John Beck a total of nine times and intercepting him twice.
Pittsburgh 25, New England 17
You could’ve mistaken Tom Brady for Tony Romo this weekend, with all the mistakes he made. Despite throwing two touchdowns to Deion Branch and Aaron Hernandez, the quarterback also had a season low of 198 passing yards, and fumbled the ball with only eight seconds left. Meanwhile, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 36 of 50 passes for a total of 365 yards; the Steelers also had possession for nearly twice the time of the Patriots. And now that the Steelers have figured out a way to shut Brady down, does it pave the way for other teams to do the same?
Detroit 45, Denver 10
Many had predicted that Tim Tebow would have a better start this game against the Lions than he had against Miami last week, but that just wasn’t the case. Tebow was continuously sacked by the Lions defense (for a total of seven times,) and they taunted him the entire time, something Detroit is becoming known for. While Tebow did manage a touchdown pass to Eric Decker with less than nine minutes left in play, at that point in the game it was nothing to be celebrated. Lions QB Matthew Stafford on the other hand is still showing a good season, passing for 267 yards and three touchdowns; and wide receiver Calvin Johnson once again left it all out on the field with six receptions for 145 yards, one of which was a 56-yard touchdown pass from Stafford. This week, the Lions proved once again that they’re still hungry!
Philadelphia 34, Dallas 7
This was the rivalry many were looking for and it wasn’t as close as most predicted it to be. The Cowboys simply had no answer for QB Michael Vick, who threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns, despite being sacked four times by the Cowboys defense. Philly’s defense however, also continually shut down Tony Romo, sacking him four times and allowing RB DeMarco Murray only 74 yards rushing. And while Vick was definitely the big player in this game, LeSean McCoy can’t be overlooked either with a career best of 185 rushing yards and scoring two touchdowns.
