The Weird, Wild and Wonderful NFL
With preseason
coming to a close this week, there has been odd, peculiar and bizarre news headlines across the NFL. Only time will tell what week four of the NFL preseason has in store, but let’s reflect on what has happened…
Troy Polamalu, a most valued, pro bowl safety from the Pittsburgh Steelers, recently had his hair insured for 1Million USD. The spokesman for Head and Shoulders, rolled in a cool million, for having hair. And lots of it. Lloyds of London agreed, and allowed the parent company (Proctor and Gamble) to grant the Steelers’ safety a hefty insurance policy on his Samoan locks – not cut since 2000.
LOL (quite the parody) has insured some other, rather famous, body parts including the legs of David Beckham, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tina Turner, Heidi Klum, Rihanna, Betty Grabel and Mariah Carey. In addition, LOL has taken out insurance policies on Dolly Parton’s breasts, Keith Richards’ hands, Tom Jones’ chest hair, and the tush of Jennifer Lopez.
Stub.com would like to know, however, what has to happen to these parts, in order to collect? Back to NFL football….
Two disturbing incidents have happened during NFL preseason football. The helmet loss of Eli Manning of the New York Giants and James Farrior of the Pittsburgh Steelers – both experienced players in the NFL – lost their helmets and suffered severe head lacerations.
An injury, for what most of us laypeople would consider a reason for a chemically-induced-coma, must-rest for-weeks to get ourselves-better form of abuse, but the like of which a key pro sits out a preseason game; heals and gets back-in-the-mix, both players are eager to get back in the game, and be a contributing factor for both the Giants and Steelers.
While both players attributed the incident to the game of football, one must wonder if all of the “investment” of NFL research into head injuries is protecting anyone. Farrior is not expected to start against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. Yeah, football is in the air.
Regardless of whose head’s will roll, Stub.com has NFL tickets to the most in-demand games, come see. You know you wanna 🙂
