Payton began to build the foundation of his team by signing Drew Brees as the franchise quarterback of the future for this team. Since 2005, the Saints progressed steadily over the years going to the playoffs in 2006 and 2009. However, it was in 2009 that the team finally reached the top of the mountain in the NFL when they won their first Super Bowl title.
