A Christmas Story – The Musical is Just as Endearing as the Film
The movie A Christmas Story is very much a part of holiday tradition for many families across the country today. The original film, starring Peter Billingsly and Darren McGavin, debuted in 1983, and was an instant hit, a holiday classic that would continue to entertain families for generations to come. For many, the movie is right up there with other holiday mainstays, such as It’s a Wonderful Life, and Miracle on 34th Street. TBS even airs it on a continuous cycle all Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the United States. No matter how many times people see the film, they continue to love it and anticipate all of the iconic scenes, such as the old man’s major award, changing the tire, meeting Santa, and more.
While everyone remembers and loves the movie, they now have the opportunity to experience it in an entirely different way. The musical version of A Christmas Story is just as much a treat as the movie is!
The plot, for those few who might not know, revolves mainly around a boy named Ralphie. It’s the 1940s, and he wants nothing more than to get a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas. The story follows his exploits and adventures leading up to Christmas in his quest for the BB gun. It also features some adventures with his family and friends. It’s a fun and heartwarming tale about a loveable if slightly dysfunctional family and one of their most memorable Christmases ever.
The musical numbers are fun and fit in nicely with the story, and the production value is very high. You will certainly recognize the sets and the costumes, which look very similar to the movie. This year, they are going to be coming to a number of cities across the country, including Austin, TX, Boston, MA, Cleveland, OH, Nashville, TN, and New York, NY.
If you love this movie — as so many people do — then you really do need to see this interpretation. Get your tickets and spend some time out with the family and friends at this show. It is great fun for the entire family.
