NFL Recap – Week 4

Week 4 saw some NFL teams lose their undefeated streak, others holding onto theirs, and some teams questioning their biggest stars.

Detroit Lions 34, Dallas Cowboys 30
If there’s one thing you can say about Tony Romo it’s that he’s inconsistent as they come; and it’s starting to make Dallas fans pretty angry. After the quarterback threw three interceptions, including the one that lost them the game, those Dallas fans are now eating their words of last week, when they were singing Romo’s praises. But you can’t blame Tony entirely. The Lions are undefeated this season for many reasons. One of those is Calvin Johnson, who scored two touchdowns for the Lions in yesterday’s game, and is proving to be the best wide receiver in the NFL.

Cincinnati Bengals 23, Buffalo Bills 20
Say what you will about the Cicinnati Bengals, but they were the ones to take away the Bills’ undefeated streak this season after Buffalo took the lead by 14 points at halftime. But coming off the glory of two wins against big teams in the NFL wasn’t enough for the Bills on Sunday. While the Bills played well in the first half, it was nowhere near the performance seen in their past two games. And in the second half, the team pretty much fell apart altogether. For the Bengals, it was a different story. Bengals Coach, Marvin Lewis, was correct in saying that they continued to “shoot themselves in the foot in the first half,” but when they came back they were able to “get on point.”

San Francisco 49ers 24, Philadelphia Eagles 23
Despite an injured right hand, Michael Vick was one of the few Philadelphia Eagles that appeared to show up for his team yesterday in their game against the San Francisco 49ers. But Vick’s career high of throwing 416 yards and running for 75 yards wasn’t enough to beat San Francisco. It may be due to the fact the Eagles once again dissolved in the fourth quarter, after being up 23-3 in the third. Or maybe it should be attributed more to Frank Gore, who ran for 12 yards for the 49ers, with just 3 minutes left, to tie the game. And of course there’s David Akers, who had something to do with the win as well, kicking the extra winning point for San Francisco.

Baltimore Ravens 34, New York Jets 17
The fact that Rex Ryan, New York Jets’ head coach, wanted to speak privately with his quarterback, Mark Sanchez, after last night’s somewhat embarrassing loss to the Baltimore Ravens should be an indicator of just what kind of trouble this team is in. But Sanchez can’t be all to blame for the loss, even with 3 fumbles and an interception. But the team’s offense didn’t show up, and that was no help against a Baltimore defense that was nothing like many fans had seen in any game before.

New England Patriots 31, Oakland Raiders 19
After last weeks’ abysmal performance against the Buffalo Bills in which he threw 4 interceptions, Tom Brady came back to New England to prove that he’s still the best quarterback in the league. And that he did. True, Brady had scored 2 touchdowns for the Pats in yesterday’s game, but there were others who could be credited with the win too. BenJarvus Green-Ellis had a one-yard scoring run; a 44-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski; and a touchdown by rookie Stevan Ridley, all also undoubtedly helped. Ridley’s touchdown is especially notable, as it was scored with only 4 minutes left in the game and pretty much clinched the game for the Pats, putting them up by 14 points.
