The 49ers organization was formed at the end of World War II in 1946. They were an expansion team brought to the west coast and had trouble in the early part of their franchise collecting winning seasons. However, this would all change in the 1980's when Joe Montana and Bill Walsh arrived.

The 49ers became a dynasty in the 1980's because they managed to win 4 Super Bowl championships over the span of this decade. Coach Walsh set up the West Coast passing offense that would change the NFL forever. With other coaches struggling to match Walsh's genius, the 49ers won the Lombardi Trophy in 1981, 1984, 1988, and 1989.

After Montana was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Steve Young era began and the 49ers didn't miss a beat. Young led the 49ers to their fifth Super Bowl title in 1994 against the San Diego Chargers. Young went on to have a Hall of Fame career but could only manage one championship for this organization. They currently stand tied with the Dallas Cowboys in second place in regards to NFL teams with the most Super Bowl rings.

The general San Francisco Bay area is literally littered with different sports franchises, but there are only two that are actually based in this city. Other than the 49ers, this town hosts the Giants who are an MLB team attached the National League. The Giants won their World Series titles in New York before moving to their new city but have remained competitive over the years.
