NFL Recap – Week 15

It was all about the upsets this weekend in the NFL as Green Bay lost their undefeated season to the Kansas City Chiefs and the Colts took home their first win of the season. There were no miracles in Denver though, and the Giants still couldn’t find a way to beat the Redskins.

Kansas City Chiefs 19, Green Bay Packers 14
In what’s undoubtedly one of the most-talked about games of the weekend, the Green Bay Packers finally fell, losing their grip on their perfect season. And who would have thought that Kansas City would have been the ones to do it? Maybe it was an “us against the world” train of thought on the part of the Chiefs, or maybe it was the fact that for the first time all season, Aaron Rodgers didn’t look like he controlled the ball with his mind. Rodgers ended the day with only 235 passing yards and one 2-yard touchdown pass to Donald Driver. On the other side of the ball Kyle Orton had a much better day, kicking four field goals for Kansas City and gaining most of their total 19 points.

Indianapolis Colts 27, Tennessee Titans 13
In the second upset of the day, the Colts won their first game of the year, despite being behind the Titans by three points at halftime. Indianapolis came out for the second half ready to play though, and they quickly scored on their first possession. When Matt Hasselbeck threw an interception shortly after, from which Jacob Lacey got some points on the scoreboard, Hasselbeck was then taken from the game to be replaced by Jake Locker. But despite Locker’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Nate Washington in the final minutes of the game, it wasn’t enough and the Colts now have one win under their belt.

New England Patriots 41, Denver Broncos 23
It looked like Tebow’s faith was going to keep the Broncos alive for their eighth straight win when, in the second quarter against the Patriots on Sunday, the Pats were down 16-7. But then Tom Brady stepped up and scored two touchdowns, along with running for another score. The quarterback ended the day with 320 total passing yards, while Aaron Hernandez caught 9 passes for 129 yards and another touchdown. Tim Tebow on the other hand, found no miracles on his home turf as he finished with just 194 passing yards, and carrying 12 times for a total of 93 yards. While Tebow did get two scores of his own for Denver, it wasn’t enough to go up against a much more experienced quarterback, and the best coach in the league.

Washington Redskins 23, New York Giants 10
The New York Giants were looking to avenge their loss to the Redskins in Week 1, but on Sunday it was clear who the better team in this matchup was. Washington dominated from the very beginning and with the Giants trailing 17-3 at halftime, it didn’t look like much was going to change. The Redskins had possession for most of the game, and quarterback Rex Grossman put on a commendable performance completing 15 of 24 passes for 185 yards, and a 20-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss. Even his interception didn’t matter much, as the Giants couldn’t cross the goal line until it was much too late, with just over 30 seconds left to play in the game.

Philadelphia Eagles 45, New York Jets 19
Even though this was a matchup between two average teams, it could still be considered an upset with the Jets having two more wins over Philly this year, and looking like the better team for the majority of the season. Michael Vick was one to help keep the playoffs in sight of the Eagles, as he finished the day with a total of 274 passing yards, a touchdown, and running for another score. Brent Celek did his part too, catching five passes for a total of 156 yards and also putting some points on the scoreboard for the Eagles. And even though you can’t tell from the final tally, Philly didn’t completely shut New York down. The Jets were doing pretty good at halftime, holding a lead of 28 — 13; but when the Eagles came back in the third quarter they quickly took 10 points of their own, before pulling out completely over the Eagles.
