After the Bart Starr and Lombardi period ended, the Packers would slip to the back burner of their division until the mid 1990's when quarterback Brett Favre and head coach Mike Holmgren brought this organization back to prominence. They won their twelfth championship and third Super Bowl title in 1996 defeating the New England Patriots. They would repeat as conference champions the following year, but lose to John Elway and the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.
