NFL Recap – Week 10

Questions abound after week 10 in the NFL – about quarterbacks, about coaches, and of course, about who will be winning their division for a chance at the playoffs!
New England Patriots 37, New York Jets 16
This game was a must-win for the New York Jets if they wanted to win the division and for most of the game, it looked as though they had a chance. But when Tom Brady capitalized on an 84-yard drive that was finished off with an 8-yard catch for the touchdown by Deion Branch in the fourth quarter, the winner was just about declared. The win gives the Patriots the number one spot in the AFC East, while the first home loss for the Jets has coach Rex Ryan guaranteeing that they won’t win division.Tom Brady was on point all night as he ended the game with 26 of 39 yards and three touchdown passes; while on the other side of the ball, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had 20 of 39 for 306 yards and one touchdown. However, Sanchez also threw two interceptions and was sacked a total of five times by the New England defense.
Denver Broncos 17, Kansas City Chiefs 10
The Sunday football game that’s becoming one of the most talked-about is the Denver Broncos win over the Kansas City Chiefs — and it has many asking, just why does Tim Tebow have so many fans anyway? The Broncos quarterback certainly brings his own style to the game and generally, that’s enough to reenergize fans. But when the star quarterback completes only two passes in an entire game, as Tebow did on Sunday, things can get boring pretty quickly. And that means you’re not watching good football. Tebow did throw the ball when needed, to Eric Decker on a 56-yard pass for a touchdown when it was needed most in the fourth quarter, but it has many asking questions. Broncos coach, John Fox, says that it’s a “low-risk offence,” but as proven on Sunday, that quickly translates into a low-action game.
Arizona Cardinals 21, Philadelphia Eagles 17
This game left both teams asking a lot of questions. The Eagles are asking why they can’t win a game, especially when they have the lead in the fourth quarter; while the Cardinals may have questions surrounding their quarterback, and just who that should be. John Skelton stepped out onto the field for Arizona as their starting QB, Kevin Kolb, was out with injury. While Kolb has been named their starter for a reason, Skelton brought an outstanding performance on Sunday, completing 21 of 40 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns. The Philadelphia Eagles also have some quarterback questions, as Michael Vick completed only 16 of 34 passes for 128 yards, as well as throwing two interceptions.
Dallas Cowboys 44, Buffalo Bills 7
Cowboys fans got to see Tony Romo play the way they know he can on Sunday, while Bills fans were left disappointed with perhaps the most embarrassing loss of the season. Call it a blowout, call it a statement game, the Cowboys are only calling it one thing — one of their best games of the season. It was all Dallas, as Romo had 23 for 26 passed with 270 yards and three touchdowns while DeMarco Murray ran for 135 yards and a touchdown. Laurent Robinson and Dez Bryant held things up on the catching end for the Cowboys, as Robinson had two scoring catches while Bryant’s touchdown catch gave Dallas the lead of 28-7 in the first half. Unfortunately for Bills fans, the only cheering to be done was when Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a touchdown pass to David Nelson early in the game. And the Bills needed a lot more than one TD in this game.
New Orleans Saints 26, Atlanta Falcons 23
Sometimes it takes a risk to win the game but as Atlanta Falcons coach, Mike Smith, found out on Sunday, sometimes that risk just doesn’t pay off. After Atlanta came back from a 10-point deficit in regulation time, the game was sent to OT after kicker Matt Bryant tied it with a 27-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter. Once in overtime, Mike Smith then decided to go for it on fourth down while his team was deep in their own end. It was a move that cost them the game as the Saints capitalized on the missed opportunity and John Kasay kicked a 26-yard field goal to win it for New Orleans. Smith openly admitted immediately after the game that the loss was on him, but that definitely doesn’t have the Falcons feeling any better about the loss.
