NFL Recap – Week 5

The Bills bounced back this week after being defeated by Cincinnati, Green Bay could barely squeak one out against the Falcons, and the Raiders saw a devastating loss that had nothing to do with what happened during game-time. Here are the recaps for Week 5 in the NFL.

Oakland Raiders 25, Houston Texans 20
After losing their head coach, Al Davis, over the weekend, the Raiders already knew that they had suffered an incredible loss, and one that would certainly leave them shaken as they faced the Houston Texans on Sunday. But, wearing “Al” stickers on their helmets, they won one for the Coach, with Darrius Heyward-Bey running for 34 yards to score the final touchdown that won them the game. The fact that Heyward-Bey was the one to win the game is especially symbolic, as everyone questioned Davis when he drafted him in 2009. There may not have been the usual celebration in the locker game afterwards as everyone certainly had Davis at the top of their minds. But there’s no doubt that this was one of the biggest wins the Raiders have ever seen — even if it had more to do with personal reasons than player stats.

San Diego Chargers 29, Denver Broncos 24
Who will the starting quarterback be for the Broncos? That’s the big question everyone in Denver is asking after Kyle Orton was benched and Tim Tebow had to step in. While Tebow did help to change the game around, it still wasn’t enough to stand up to the Chargers, who are now in first place in the AFC West. It’s especially good news for the Chargers, who have been off to a good start this year. It’s the first year that’s happened since 2007.

Buffalo Bills 31, Philadelphia Eagles 24
The Bills are back! With their fourth win in five weeks, the Bills are starting to show that they just might make it to the playoffs this year, the first time in over a decade. The Eagles were originally favored to win this one, but with a touchdown from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (who also threw for 193 yards, by the way); and an amazing performance from Fred Jackson who rushed for 111 yards and had another 85 receiving, the Eagles had their work cut out for them. Include in that the fact that Michael Vick threw 4 interceptions for the Eagles, and it’s pretty easy to see how the Bills took this one.

Green Bay Packers 25, Atlanta Falcons 14
Many called this game early after Green Bay allowed two touchdowns from the Falcons in the opening minutes of the game. But, the Packers are never a team to give up easy, and they gathered their resolve once again after allowing such terrible plays. Aaron Rodgers, who led the Packers to a Super Bowl win last year and an undefeated season this year, completed 26 of 39 passes for 396 yards. Rodgers was also responsible for throwing two touchdowns with no interceptions. Keep Rodgers around, and things are looking good in Green Bay for this year’s Super Bowl.

New England Patriots 30, New York Jets 21
Tom Brady stepped out onto the field and stepped up for his team once again in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Completing 24 of 33 passes to score a touchdown and throwing only one interception. But even that one didn’t matter, as Brady had a host of good players backing him up on Sunday as BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed for 136 yards, a career-high; and scoring two touchdowns. The Jets on the other hand, have lost their third straight game of the season, proving that they’ve got some work to do before they’ll be flying high.
