NFL Preview – Week 16

Week 15 doesn’t see any of the huge storylines like the last few weeks of the NFL have brought us, at least not yet anyway. But we are getting closer to the Super Bowl by the day and that means we get to watch teams try and duke it out for a playoff spot, knock other’s out of it, and watch some make some desperate last-minute attempts.

New York Giants vs. New York Jets
New York, New York! This is the kind of game that New Yorkers dream of, but for the Jets and Giants, it’s about more than just proving who the kings of the town are; for both, it could mean playoff elimination. If the Giants can pull it out, they’ll squeeze Philadelphia out from the playoff run, but they’ll need the rest of the offense to keep the pace that Eli Manning has set if they want to hang onto the playoff wild card they have. The Jets on the other hand, are coming off a humiliating loss last week against the Eagles, but have a slightly better record than the Giants. This game between two average New York teams is a tough one to call, but definitely one of the most-talked about games of the week.

Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs
In order to turn around their three-game losing streak and have a hope of making it to the playoffs, the Oakland Raiders are going to need to beat one of their biggest rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. That might be hard with a defense that’s ranked 27th in the league, and given that quarterback Carson Palmer has been utterly useless since losing his running back, Darren McFadden. Add to that the fact that the Chiefs are on a super-confidence high after beating the then-undefeated Green Bay Packers last week. Oakland desperately needs this win, but we don’t think they’re going to get it.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys
Tony Romo’s going to have a tough job ahead of him when his team faces their biggest rival in the league, the Philadelphia Eagles, on Saturday. Either of these teams still have a fighting chance at the playoffs, but Dallas has a much better chance at it than Philly. The good news for them is that when they’re playing Dallas, it usually goes their way. These two teams met up in week 8 of the season, with the Philly’s embarrassing their rivals with a 34-7 victory while sacking Romo constantly, thanks to Jason Babin, who’s tied for the most sacks in the league. Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy might be the epitome of a dynamic duo, while running back Felix Jones looks like he might be sitting out with an injured hamstring. Even with the stats saying otherwise, based on past history and Philly’s desperate attempt to stay in the playoff run, we’re giving this one to them.
