NFL Preview: Week 13

With just a few weeks left in the regular season, things are starting to take shape in the NFL. While the Saints are desperately trying to keep their season alive against the formidable Atlanta Falcons, rivals of the AFC North take each on as the Steelers head to Baltimore. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys probably have their best chance of the season as they host the beaten-down Philadelphia Eagles.

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons
A team that’s nearly undefeated this season against one that has almost as many losses as they do wins. At first glance, this one looks like an easy pick. But the Saints have been on a bit of a streak lately, despite last week’s loss to the 49ers; and the desperation they have going into this game might be the boost they need to take them to a win. The Falcons, while a far better team, will also have a hint of desperation, as they look for revenge after losing to the Saints on November 11 — their only loss of the season.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens looked like they were down and out after losing both Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb to injury; but they’ve continued to perform very well, and their defense in particular has looked impenetrable the past few weeks. That will work in their favor in their matchup against the Steelers on Sunday, as Pittsburgh’s defense has its own chunks in its armor right now. It looks as though quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be missing his third straight game; and it doesn’t look as though fill in Byron Leftwich is going to be on the field either, after getting smothered the last time these two teams met. Charlie Batch will likely be starting QB for the Steelers, and judging by his performance against Cleveland last week, Pittsburgh’s offensive problems are only going to get worse.

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys
Who would’ve thought that at this point in the season the Cowboys would be second in their division, and looking as though they may have a real shot at the playoffs. There’s little doubt they’re only going to further those chances in this big game on Sunday night, as Philly’s currently without Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy, and DeSean Jackson. The Cowboys aren’t that strong, but the Eagles are on a rapid downward spiral.
