Terrell Owens Cut from the Seahawks

The big question is “What now?”

It wasn’t much of a surprise yesterday when Terrell Owens, former wide receiver of the Seattle Seahawks tweeted, “I’m no longer a Seahawk. I thank the organization 4 the opportunity, I’m truly blessed beyond belief. My faith is intact & will not waiver.” That’s nice for Owens and goes along with his good boy behavior he’s displayed over the past couple of seasons. But what is that faith resting in? The fact that another team will pick him up? Or the fact that he’ll get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?

One of those is possible. The other, well, it will take a lot of faith.

Terrell Owens’ days are most likely done in the NFL. His best chances are with the Miami Dolphins, the Dallas Cowboys, or the New York Jets; and chances at any of them are slim. Miami and New York already have pretty big rosters, and payrolls to go along with them; and Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones has been very public about not wanting to add Owens to the team. Maybe because of some bad behavior, maybe because of the baffling errors Owens has made so far in the preseason.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is the most likely spot for him; but will he even get there? Cris Carter, Tim Brown, Torry Holt, and Hines Ward are all huge frontrunners that have come before him. They’ve also been waiting longer and in many cases, are better qualified.

So what does the future hold for Terrell Owens? Hard to say the day after he’s been cut by the Seahawks. But he has been blessed. And even if he doesn’t come back to the NFL, and even for those who were never big fans, we were blessed to be able to watch him — on and off the field — for the past several years.
