San Francisco 49ers Dominate Green Bay
The San Francisco 49ers took the victory over the Green Bay Packers 30 — 22, and how Green Bay ever got their 22 points is anybody’s guess. After last season’s jaw-dropping elimination from the post-season, you would think it would be Aaron Rodgers and Company that had something to prove. Instead though, it was clear that, if the Packers only lost one game last season, the 49ers didn’t know it.
Not surprisingly, it was quarterback Aaron Rodgers that helped put up most of the points for Green Bay. He finished with 30 of 44 for 303 yards, two touchdowns, and only one interception. Jermichael Finley also put up a 1-yard touchdown, but the 49ers defense held them up from getting much more than that.
“They’ve got a great defense,” Rodgers said after the game. “You’ve got to give them credit. They’ve got some of the top guys in the league at their position.”
But the 49ers had plenty going for them on the offensive side of things, too. Quarterback Alex Smith ended up with 20 of 26 for 211 yards, and scored two touchdowns. Running back Frank Gore on the other hand, ran for 112 yards and a touchdown of his own. Randy Moss, now in a San Fran uniform, also scored a 14-yard touchdown.
After the game Packers’ coach Mike McCarthy was asked if he was please with his team’s effort. “Boy, I’d like to answer that truthfully,” he replied. “We’re 0-1. We have some work to do. We’re up in 96 hours.”
That will be on Thursday, when the Packers face off against the Chicago Bears. The 49ers will play on next Sunday night, when they will take on the Detroit Lions.
