NFL Recap: Week 8

It was a great day in the NFL yesterday, with a showdown easily won in the AFC East, and the Green Bay Packers all but falling apart at home. Meanwhile in Dallas, the Cowboys still can’t find a way to get any consistency going, and they have their hopes dashed in the final seconds. That and more, in this week’s NFL recap!

Green Bay Packers 24, Jacksonville Jaguars 15
This game should have been a blowout; and Green Bay fans were looking forward to an easy game to help boost them in the standings after a lousy start to the year. The fans got it and the Packers won, but it wasn’t easy for them. Green Bay looked sluggish throughout most of the game, even against the worst team in the NFL, and couldn’t seem to get into the game until it was almost over. If Jacksonville had been playing with their best running back, Maurice Jones-Drew, who was out on injury, they most likely would have won this game. Not that they looked like a good football team, either.

Miami Dolphins 30, New York Jets 9
This battle in the AFC East should have been much closer than was. And the fact that it wasn’t should have Rex Ryan finally seeing the problems in his starter quarterback. The fact that Mark Sanchez was sacked four times and picked once by the Dolphins’ defense should be enough for anyone to realize that this is not the guy to get the job done for the Jets. But if that wasn’t enough to make a Tebow believer out of just about any Jets fan, the fact that Sanchez also fumbled once and allowed Miami to score off a blocked punt should be. Sanchez also had a field goal attempt that was also blocked by the Dolphins. A near-empty stadium in New York at half time showed that fans are starting to see it. The question is, is Rex Ryan?

New York Giants 29, Dallas Cowboys 24
The Giants did look as though they had control of this game from the very beginning, with Tony Romo at the helm of the Cowboys’ downfall. New York capitalized on the three interceptions of Romo’s, scoring a touchdown on one of them; but it was Dez Bryant’s performance that really put the Cowboys behind — and caused some of Romo’s mistakes, too. Bryant nearly came through at the very end though, when he caught a touchdown that would have won the Cowboys the game. Unfortunately, instant replay showed that Bryant was out of bounds by just a fingertip — enough to give New York the win. As for the Giants? They played fairly consistently, which is all they needed to do on Sunday.
