NFL Recap: Week 7
The Ravens felt the severe loss of both Lewis and Webb, and the battle of the quarterbacks couldn’t have been more exciting in New York. Meanwhile, the Patriots take it over the Jets, but just barely after falling apart late in the game. All of that is in this week’s recap of the best NFL action.
Houston Texans 43, Baltimore Ravens 13
Houston looked to be on an easy path to the Super Bowl before last week’s crushing loss against the Packers. Even without Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb playing for Baltimore, fans wondered if the Texans could pull this one out; or if their streak was simply over. It didn’t take long for Houston to prove they still had it though, setting a franchise record for the number of points in a game; and finishing with 420 yards. It was the first time Houston has beaten Baltimore in six meetings; one of those times Baltimore eliminated Houston from the playoffs. Even if it was the simple fact that Lewis and Webb were out, there’s little doubt that the Texans will savor the victory.
New England Patriots 29, New York Jets 26
This one went exactly the way everyone thought it would. It was two teams sitting even in their division, and neither with huge success stories behind them so far this year. This game was going to be about who could keep their focus, eliminate mistakes, and capitalize on those made by the other team. The Pats turned out to be the ones to do all of that; but it certainly wasn’t easy for them, and mistakes were made. Mistakes that cost them the lead in the fourth quarter, and sent them into OT. It was there that all of the mistakes were made on the side of the Jets, giving New England the win. But just by the skin of their teeth.
New York Giants 27, Washington Redskins 23
Many had Eli Manning taking the battle of the quarterbacks in an orderly fashion, but RG3 brought his own game; and those who have seen this rookie play know that’s something to contend with. Griffin almost had the Giants beat, and it looked like he was going to be able to give Washington the win after his late touchdown pass to Santana Moss. However, in sheer Manning style, Eli stepped in with less than two minutes to go with a 77-yard toss to Victor Cruz, which won them the game. The better of the quarterbacks won here, but RG3 certainly proved that he’s no longer only a former Heisman winner. He’s a real force in the NFL.
