NFL Recap – Week 14

Tim Tebow has everyone believing after a miraculous win against Chicago on Sunday and unsurprisingly, the Packers remain undefeated. That and more, in this week’s NFL recaps.

Denver Broncos 13, Chicago Bears 10 OT
Many Broncos fans were eating their predictions of victory when there was less than five minutes in the game and Denver was down by ten points. But enter in some of Tebow’s faith and determination, as well as a crucial mistake by Bears’ running back Marion Barber, and the Broncos once again pulled out another victory. But even though it was Tebow’s sixth straight win, the Broncos really have Matt Prater to thank for this one. It was a huge 59-yard field goal that gave the Broncos the extra life they needed in OT; and his 51-yarder to win the game showed that the Broncos are about more than just Tebow. This might be a team with some real depth.

New York Giants 37, Dallas Cowboys 34
The Dallas Cowboys suffered another loss at home on Sunday and while usually all eyes turn to Romo, they’re actually on kicker Dan Bailey, who just can’t seem to cut a break. His field goal from the 47-yard line was interrupted and miscounted when Giants’ coach Tom Coughlin called a time out just after the snap, and it was déjà vu for Bailey, who had the same thing happen to him by his own coach in last week’s game. Tony Romo actually had a fairly decent performance with two touchdown passes, but he wasn’t enough to go up against Eli Manning, who led the Giants to two touchdowns in the final three minutes of the game. With both teams now having an equal number of wins and losses, they are tied for the top spot in the NFC East.

New England Patriots 34, Washington Redskins 27
A game that wasn’t largely talked about beforehand ended up making NFL history; and it showed Tom Brady in a way that we had never seen before. The Patriots were looking to extend their lead with another touchdown, after Brady threw a touchdown to Wes Welker to tie it up earlier in the game. But when Brady threw an interception and then headed to the sidelines to scream at Tiquan Underwood for not catching it, a screaming match between the quarterback and the offensive coordinator, Bill O’Brien ensued. After a few minutes, the game resumed and the Pats went on to take the victory, even without that second touchdown. The only story the Redskins had, besides nearly beating one of the best teams in the league, was that Rob Gronowski set an NFL record for the most touchdown receptions by a tight end in a single season.

Houston Texans 20, Cincinnati Bengals 19
Denver isn’t the only city believing in miracles after the Houston Texans were able to pull out a win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon. It’s not the fact that the Bengals are an outstanding team (because they’re not, really) that had people giving this one to them before game-time even started, it was the fact that the Texans were playing with their third-string quarterback, T.J. Yates, and without their star wide receiver, Andre Johnson. And even though Yates was sacked continually and threw an interception, he also threw two touchdowns to help give Houston the win. Yates ended the day completing 26 of 44 attempts for a total of 300 yards.

Green Bay Packers 46, Oakland Raiders 16
No one expects Green Bay to lose any game this season, let alone this one against Oakland on Sunday; but if possible, Oakland looked even worse than Green Bay could have ever hoped. Carson Palmer gets a bit of a break, playing without his top three receivers; but throwing four interceptions when you’re in a game against Green Bay is just putting the nails in your own coffin. Aaron Rodgers helped them out a little bit, having a bad game in his own right. But when your name’s Aaron Rodgers, a bad game means throwing only two touchdowns instead of four.
