NFL QB’s In Limbo

We’re coming up on the halfway point of the 2010 NFL regular season. While injuries are certain to play a part at this point of the season, we are amazed at the amount of news – injury and otherwise – surrounding many of the quarterbacks in the NFL.

Minnesota Vikings QB, Brett Favre, has his share of newsworthy tidbits. From allegations of inappropriate messages, photos and whatnots, to his injured foot/ankle, to speculation that his age and physical breakdown are the primary detriment to the ailing Vikings downward spiral, Favre has been a topic of conversation for months.

Speaking only of football, Favre hasn’t ruled out playing Sunday against the 5-1 New England Patriots. Favre has also indicated that, regardless, he wouldn’t practice until Friday. This guy sure loves to keep everyone – including the Vikings – hanging….

The Dallas Cowboys are without Tony Romo for at least six weeks, and Jon Kitna finds himself at the helm. The 1-5 Cowboys are desperately looking for the magic potion that will stop their slide, and there is some concern that Kitna, 38 and not very mobile, may not have what the doctor ordered. Whether or not this is true, the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday will be a good indicator.

Tennessee Titans QB, Vince Young finally returned to practice, after sustaining a leg sprain during the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 18. Kerry Collins came in, and brought in a victory against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Young is still listed as “day-to-day”, with the Titans starting QB still a question mark leading up to the game against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.

The ailing San Francisco 49ers have decided to go with QB Troy Smith, in the London matchup against the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Wembley Stadium. Previous starter, Alex Smith, is sitting out with a separated shoulder, and the 1-6 Niners can only go up from here…can’t they?

As the regular season passes the midway point, it will be interesting to see what replacement QB’s can make a name – or positive impact – when given the chance.
