Injury puts Graydar out of Dirt Mile

Elmont, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Leading sprinter Graydar will not race in Friday’s Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile due to an injury. The gray 4-year-old has a quarter crack in his left front hoof.

“We believed Graydar had a huge chance in the Breeders’ Cup,” said trainer Todd Pletcher. “This is a setback but hopefully he can be 100 percent for the Cigar Mile.”

Graydar, owned by Twin Creeks Racing Stables, had the injury discovered Monday morning.

“We’re obviously disappointed,” said Randy Gullatt, manager of Twin Creeks Racing Stables. “A Breeders’ Cup win is a top goal of ours, but we’re always going to do what’s in the best interest of the horse first. Graydar’s comeback had gone perfectly until this point. He was undefeated this year and was sitting on a big race in the Breeders’ Cup. Hopefully, this foot issue resolves quickly and we can make the Grade 1 Cigar Mile before he retires to stud.”

The colt won the Kelso Stakes on Sept. 28 at Belmont Park to claim his third win of the year in as many starts. He also won the Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park and New Orleans Handicap at Fair Grounds.

Overall, Graydar has won five of six career starts for $841,560.
