Cowboys Overtake Dolphins in Hall of Fame Game

Preseason games rarely ever see any big stars stepping out onto the field, yet fans keep coming back for them, usually after a long off-season with little ball to watch. That ante was pushed a little further on Sunday night, when the very first preseason game was held between the Cowboys and the Dolphins, and it was also the Hall of Fame game to boot.

The game ended with a close score of 24-20, but Dallas did a good job of dominating throughout. Their new defensive game, which was put in place by Monte Kiffin, is clearly going to be something every team will struggle with this year. But the Cowboys’ offensive game is also going to be vastly different from what we saw last year, as Bill Callahan takes those reigns; and although Romo wasn’t on the field due to injury, he may just shine in a new light as well.

But while Dallas did a great job of running the ball and playing well in their own end, the win also came because of many mistakes made by the Dolphins. Ryan Tannehill made the first in Miami’s first play of the game, fumbling a handoff to Lamar Miller. He did leave the game soon after with an arm injury, but those may have just been first-game-back-jitters. Upon his returning, he did seem to be one of the only players who could contend with Dallas’ defense.

Of course the game came after the Hall of Fame induction the previous night, and many of the inductees were present at the game to be recognized there as well. Larry Allen, Bill Parcells, Cris Carter, Jonathan Ogden, Warren Sapp, Curley Cupl and Dave Robinson were all honored beforehand. Parcells, who worked as an executive for the Dolphins and is the former coach of Dallas, clearly revelled in the moment as he walked through a line of players from both teams, shaking hands and exchanging barbs as he went.

With the first behind us, fans are already eagerly anticipating the next preseason game. That will be on August 8 when the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Atlanta Falcons.
