What’s the Deal with Jerry Seinfeld in 2012?
It’s hard to believe a man that was such a strong influence on American culture has now faded back into relative obscurity. Oh sure, he still causes riots whenever he goes to the mall…but he hasn’t been on TV in ages! What did ever happen to Jerry Seinfeld?
One of his most triumphant victories was reuniting with co-creator Larry David on the Curb Your Enthusiasm show, staging a parody of a Seinfeld reunion. Larry, Jerry, Julia, Michael and Jason were all there…and playing loud, exaggerated caricatures of themselves. The Seinfeld reunion season ended with Larry alienating everyone, as usual, and ruining his shot at writing a memorable Seinfeld finale (they finished the episode without him), while also blowing it with his estranged wife. (Whom he later divorced)
Seinfeld, at least in real life, is happily married to his wife Jessica and now has three children. That’s right, Seinfeld fans…he has become a man! And he didn’t even back out of the pact. Larry on the other hand…well, what did you expect from old George?
Seinfeld has been busy, making casual appearances on TV, in movies and in concerts or standup comedy shows. Seinfeld has also done TV commercials for Apple, made webisodes for American Express (during which he reunited with “Puddy”, Patrick Warburton) and even appeared at the National Museum of American History to donate the legendary “puffy shirt”. He has also appeared on Saturday Night Live, where he tried to kill Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Yes, that really happened…but he didn’t succeed.
What about 2011 and 2012 news? He’s been laying low in 2012, besides his comedy tours, though he did find the time to appear on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, overseeing JerrySeinfeld.com and starring in an HBO Special Talking Funny with other comedians. He has also been dabbling in Internet comedy with comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com, where he again reunited with old buddy Larry David.
He’s staying quite active for an early retiree in his late fifties. However, seeing him live and in person is definitely an experience all its own. Why not look for tickets now and welcome the TV pioneer to your own hometown?
