What will Happen at the NHL Trade Deadline?

We are just about two weeks away from the NHL trade deadline and in a shortened season, it might be more important than ever. The playoff race is tight, every point counts, and now is the time for teams to beef up their roster with names that will help them get to the Finals. So, what’s going to happen? Here are some of the storylines going around.

Jarome Iginla is one of the biggest names being floated around, although being the face of his franchise, the Flames would need to get a lot for him. This is a delicate balancing act for Calgary. Still scrapping for a playoff spot, if they get one but lose Iginla, it’s going to be the toughest series for them yet. And if they keep Iginla but still don’t make the playoffs, they could lose out on some great players, as Jarome will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. The teams thought to be most interested are the Bruins, the Penguins, and the Kings.

The Dallas Stars haven’t had a terrible season, but after missing the playoffs last year, they’re desperate to get back in it. If they do, they’ll have to work hard and have all their best players on the ice as much as possible. Because of this, it’s thought that they might recruit some new talent by trading Brenden Morrow and Derek Roy.

Being hit by injury after injury this season, there were lots of trade rumors floating around the Ottawa Senators. The first was that they’d trade Daniel Alfredsson to the Boston Bruins, in order to both get a good trade, and so that the captain could win a Cup before retirement. Now that he’s announced he may play next year as well, and known for being fiercely loyal to the team that drafted him, that’s not likely to happen.

But where the Sens might be missing on their different lineups, they almost have an over-abundance of spectacular goaltending. With starter Craig Anderson expected due back shortly after being out with an ankle injury, it will be goalies Ben Bishop and Robin Lehner that might force this team to make a tough decision.
