The Spurs and the Heat Begin the Battle Tonight!
Tonight LeBron James will once again try to reclaim his Finals MVP title as his Miami Heat go up against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. How easy it will be for him has yet to be determined.
The Heat defeated Oklahoma City quite easily last year, taking only five games to do it. But for LeBron, this isn’t just any other championship. It’s a rematch from 2007, when the Spurs took the championship from him, then while he was playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers. And that vengeance that LeBron says he’s still seeking might be just enough to give the Heat what they need to reclaim the title once again. Well, that and the fact that LeBron is surrounded by mega talent this time around.
Truth be told though, the San Antonio Spurs have their own talent that they’ll be bringing to the court. Tony Parker is the Spurs’ answer to LeBron, and his quick movement with the ball is unstoppable. That should continue on through this series, but the Spurs will need to be able to find a way to stop giving away turnovers; and Parker’s going to have to get away from the watchful eyes of the Heat.
It’s not as though Miami doesn’t have work to do though. LeBron is going to have to remember what lost him that championship back in ’07 – his lack of offensive play. And while his play in that end has improved, he’ll have to find a way to continue to bring it when playing against the Spurs – who are especially good at messing up the opponent’s offensive zone.
With both teams being so good during the regular season, this is a tough series to call. It’s one that will go at least six games, if not the full seven;and one in which every second is going to be hard-fought. A lot of quick thinking and good judgement calls might just be the difference for who walks away with the title this year.
