“The Help” Star Jessica Chastain is Coming to Broadway
Jessica Chastain helped make a name for herself when she appeared in the movie version of “The Help” (even though she has many credits to her name before that appearance); and now she’s taking on another adaptation of a book — this time in on stage, acting out The Heiress, the play based on the book “Washington Square.”
Chastain will be playing the role of Catherine Sloper, the daughter of a wealthy, but heartless man who’s trying to keep her from a handsome suitor. But does the suitor really have good intentions? That’s one of the themes that keeps audiences guessing, as Catherine sits in her bedroom overlooking Washington Square continuously listening for the sound of her beau’s horse and carriage coming to see her. But her suitor may not be the only one with ill intent; Catherine is also looking to seek revenge on her father, who’s been overbearing and controlling for her entire life.
This is not the first time Jessica Chastain has taken the stage, although it will be the first time she appears on Broadway. She’s also appeared in Salome in 2006 and in Othello. Aside from “The Help,” Chastain has also appeared in “The Tree of Life,” “The Debt,” and “Take Shelter,” all of which were filmed in 2011.
Very little is known right now about the play, including when in 2012 the play will begin, and what theater it will be showing at. It will be on Broadway though, and it will give audiences one more chance to see the magic of Jessica Chastain as she appears on-stage. With many credits already behind this play, which has been done on Broadway before at the Lincoln Center Theater, this one might just be the one to watch for this year!
