Royals’ Duffy forced from start
Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Kansas City Royals pitcher Danny Duffy exited Saturday’s game against the New York Yankees after injuring himself in the bottom of the first inning.
Duffy threw just one pitch to Yankees leadoff hitter Jacoby Ellsbury before summoning the Royals’ training staff and eventually walking off the mound. He was replaced by Liam Hendriks.
The Royals later announced that Duffy was dealing with soreness in his left shoulder.
Duffy has logged a career-high 141 1/3 innings this season, his second back from Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for most of the 2012 campaign.
The 25-year-old entered the matchup 8-11 with a 2.42 earned run average in 28 games (22 starts) this season.
