Report: Peterson faced other accusation
(SportsNetwork.com) – A television station says the mother of another one of Adrian Peterson’s children filed a report with Child Protective Services over accusations the child was left with a wound after being disciplined by the Minnesota Vikings star.
Houston’s KHOU reported Monday that no charges were filed over the incident, which allegedly happened inside a car while the boy visited Peterson at his gated house in The Woodlands, Texas.
Peterson’s attorney said in a statement to the media that the allegation of another investigation of the running back “is simply not true.”
“The allegation is more than one year old and authorities took no action,” Rusty Hardin said, according to ESPN.com. “An adult witness admittedly insists Adrian did nothing inappropriate with his son.”
The Vikings said in a statement they had already been made aware of the allegation “in which authorities took no action against Adrian.”
The report came three days after Peterson was indicted in Montgomery County, Texas, on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child for using a tree branch, or “switch,” to discipline his 4-year-old son by striking him.
In the latest report, KHOU says it obtained text messages between Peterson and the woman that show the running back saying he disciplined a different 4-year- old son for cursing at a sibling.
The texts allegedly show Peterson saying the child hit his head on a car seat during a “whoopin.” A photo allegedly texted by Peterson to the mother shows a head wound covered by bandages, according to the report. Another photo taken weeks later allegedly shows a scar over the boy’s right eye.
Peterson was deactivated by the Vikings on Friday and missed their game over the weekend but the team announced Monday that he had been activated and was expected to be available for the next game.
Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf said in a statement Monday they were taking the accusations seriously and that it was “a matter of due process” that they allow Peterson to play while the legal case plays out.
Peterson, who is said to be cooperating with police over the initial incident, also issued a statement Monday saying he is “not a child abuser” and that he did not intend to injure his son as he “disciplined” him.
