NFL Thursday Night Preview
Don’t expect to see a lot of huge names out on the field tonight. While the lineup of games looks pretty good, regular season starts next week and so coaches aren’t going to risk hurting their best players just beforehand. On that note, every team’s got a story and here are the biggest ones surrounding tonight’s games.
New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles — Don’t expect Tebow or Sanchez to take the field for the Jets tonight; and it’s not because Ryan is keeping them from injury. It’s because neither has scored a touchdown this season. Who knows? Does this mean that Matt Simms, third-stringer, will emerge as the star this season? We’ll see as he takes the field tonight.
Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions — This will be one of those rare preseason games that’s going to be great to watch. The Bills just cut Vince Young and traded for Tarvaris Jackson to be their second-string quarterback. He’ll take the field tonight, giving Bills fans the first chance to see him.
Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks — The Seahawks just signed Matt Flynn in the off-season as the biggest QB free agent signing in the NFL. But in a move that rocked The Emerald City, third-round draft pick, Russell Wilson has been named as the ‘Hawks starting quarterback. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll play tonight, but no doubt everyone’s dying for a chance to watch.
New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans — The biggest story here is that while the Saints are playing in Tennessee, their hearts are no doubt at home. Louisiana didn’t see the worst of Tropical Storm Isaac, but there is severely heavy rain and extreme flooding in many areas. Whether or not it will be a distraction for the Saints remains to be seen, but much of the talk in this game is bound to be about the storm.
