NFL Recap – Week 3

Many of the 15 NFL games played in Week 3 yesterday were ones not to miss. In case you did, here are the top 5.

Buffalo 34, New England 31
Undoubtedly the biggest upset in Week 3 and one of the most talked about games, the Buffalo Bills managed to pull it out against this year’s most favored teams. Despite a great performance by Tom Brady, the New England Patriots had problems shutting the Bills down for the entire game. They clinched it when they took away the Pats’ chance of bringing the ball back in the last few seconds of the game, a brilliant strategic move that paid off huge for the team. Both teams went into this game undefeated and someone had to be the loser. But no one, including New England, thought it would be them.

Detroit 26, Minnesota 23
They may have needed to go into overtime to do it, but the Detroit Lions were willing to do anything needed to give them their third win of the season (leaving them undefeated for anyone that’s keeping count.) The outcome of the game could be due to a miserable performance from the Vikings, but that’s not to take away from the Lions, who have looked terrific all season. The win puts the team in a position they haven’t been in since 1980.

Cleveland 17, Miami 16
Despite two penalties for the Browns’ at the 15-yard line, a timeout, and controlling most of the game, the Miami Dolphins handed this game to the Cleveland Browns in the last few seconds. That spells trouble for both the team and its management, as they haven’t won a game yet this season. Head coach Tony Sparano better find a way to turn it around for next week. Not everyone believed in him coming into the year, and now he may be giving even those who did reason to question his effectiveness on this team.

Baltimore 37, St. Louis 7
Maybe this loss can be attributed to the fact that Baltimore Ravens has a pretty outstanding defensive team this year. Or maybe fans can chock it up to the fact offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels is still getting his feet wet on the team. Either way, this loss was an embarrassment for the Rams, specifically quarterback Sam Bradford, who better start showing signs of improvement after winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. No doubt his team is waiting to see if it’s a case of the “sophomore curse,” or whether Bradford just saw his glory days early in his career.

New Orleans 40, Houston 33
Call it a stellar performance from New Orleans quarterback, Drew Brees. Or call it a team that now has some depth to it, with 5 different Saints players scoring touchdowns. Or maybe it was just the fact that many of the Houston Texan‘s best are sitting out with injuries right now. Whatever the reason, this win for New Orleans (albeit in a very close game) shows that they might still hold some of the oomph that helped them win the Super Bowl in 2009.
