NBA Finals Update

All it took was six quarters for the Miami Heat to wake up and blow the San Antonio Spurs out of a basketball game. After the Spurs put Miami to the test during Game 1, and narrowly escaped with a victory seconds before the game would go into overtime, LeBron James and Dwayne Wade both blamed fatigue as the reason for the loss. But after getting some sleep, and watching the Spurs nearly take it from them once again, the Heat heard the alarm and finally came out to play.

Things seemed slow at first during the first half of Game 2, and there was little that was put up on the scoreboard. But the Heat came back in the last half in a definitive manner, blowing the Spurs out with a 103-84 victory.

That first game may have been a wake-up call for more than just the Heat’s biggest players. In fact, LeBron missed 10 of his first 13 shots during the first half of Game Two, although he ended the game with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. While it was a much more impressive performance than was seen during the first game, LeBron didn’t steal the game as many hoped he would. Instead, that honor went to Mario Chalmers, who scored 19 points by the end of the night on Sunday.

But the spark that was lit under Miami wasn’t the only reason for their win. It also helped them that San Antonio seemed to be falling apart after defeating the Heat during Game 1. During the first half on Sunday the Spurs gave up a whopping 17 turnovers, and helped Miami score 19 of their points. And their big star, Tony Parker, just wasn’t big enough, finishing the night with only 13 points.

The Heat’s victory levels the series at 1-1 until Tuesday night, when the two teams meet again and one of them will take the lead.
