Mika Zibanejad and Clarke MacArthur each scored once and Craig Anderson posted 34 saves for the Senators, who capped the month of December by winning consecutive games for the first time since taking three in a row from Nov. 5-9 earlier in the season. Joel Ward netted Washington’s lone goal, while Philipp Grubauer gave up two goals on 37 shots for the Capitals, who have lost four of their last five games.

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) – Brandon Saad scored the game’s only goal and rookie Antti Raanta recorded his first career shutout, as the Chicago Blackhawks blanked the Los Angeles Kings, 1-0, on Monday at United Center. Saad lit the lamp 7:05 into the game to get the Blackhawks on the board and provide Raanta with the only support he would need, as the 24-year-old netminder turned aside 26 shots, including 15 in the second stanza, to help Chicago improve to 5-0-2 in its last seven games. Fellow rookie goaltender Martin Jones absorbed the hard-luck loss, stopping all but one of the 30 shots he faced for the Kings, who have dropped a season-high three straight games.

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) – Colin Wilson posted two goals and an assist as the Nashville Predators survived to take a 6-4 win over the Detroit Red Wings. Mike Fisher had a goal and two assists, while Nick Spaling, Craig Smith and Roman Josi all scored for the Predators, who have won their past two. Marek Mazanec stopped 21 shots in the win. This game was the last match Detroit will play until New Year’s Day, when it hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium for the 2014 Winter Classic. Detroit got goaltender Jimmy Howard back, as he had been out since Dec. 10 with a sprained left MCL. He was touched for five goals on 28 shots for the Red Wings, who had won three of four coming in. Justin Abdelkader, Pavel Datsyuk, Patrick Eaves and Drew Miller all scored in the loss.

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) – Vinny Lecavalier scored the winning goal in the shootout to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. In the first round, Lecavalier made a nifty move to fake back to the forehand and lifted the puck over Eddie Lack. Steve Mason then saw Ryan Kesler whiff on his attempt, before stopping a low shot from Daniel Sedin for the win. Claude Giroux, Brayden Schenn and Mark Streit all scored for the Flyers, who have won three straight and five of six. Mason made 41 saves for the win. Daniel Sedin, Tom Sestito and Jannik Hansen scored for the Canucks, who had a six-game home winning streak broken. Lack finished with 24 stops.
