Girgensons scored a goal in regulation and Miller made 35 saves for the Sabres, who won for only the second time in their last 10 games. Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) – Alex Ovechkin’s fourth goal of the night tied the game with 32.4 seconds remaining in regulation, and the Washington Capitals ultimately prevailed in a shootout to post a thrilling 6-5 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Verizon Center. Ovechkin’s efforts, along with a one-goal, four-assist performance from Nicklas Backstrom, enabled the Capitals to overcome an early 3-0 deficit and notch their third consecutive victory and fifth in six outings. Philipp Grubauer aided Washington’s cause by stopping 32-of-34 shots after relieving an ineffective Braden Holtby, who let up three Tampa Bay goals on just eight chances before being pulled just after the 11-minute mark. Cam Atkinson had two goals and two assists and Curtis McElhinney made 30 saves for the Blue Jackets, who extended their home winning streak to four games. Brandon Dubinsky also collected four points with a goal and three assists and Matt Calvert scored for Columbus. Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) – Martin Jones recorded his second consecutive shutout and six different players lit the lamp as Los Angeles pulled off a milestone 6-0 victory against the Canadiens at Bell Centre. Jones, in only his third NHL start, continued his shutout streak which began in earnest with a 16-save, 3-0 whitewash of the Islanders on Saturday. On Tuesday, he stopped 30 pucks, including a 17-shot barrage in the opening 20 minutes. Jordan Nolan, Anze Kopitar, Alec Martinez, Tyler Toffoli, Jake Muzzin and Justin Williams scored for the Kings, who kicked off their four-game road swing with their ninth win in Montreal over 46 seasons. LA had dropped five in a row in Quebec’s largest city since a 4-2 decision on Dec. 11, 1999. Carey Price was chased after yielding four goals on 16 shots in almost 25 1/2 minutes. Peter Budaj ended the contest with 12 stops for the Canadiens, whose five-game win streak came to a screeching halt.

Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Brad Boyes potted the game-winner in the shootout to lift the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Sean Bergenheim and Nick Bjugstad added a pair of third period goals for the Panthers, winners in three of their last four games. Tim Thomas made 24 saves in the triumph. Todd Bertuzzi and Pavel Datsyuk both lit the lamp for the Red Wings, who have dropped three of four.

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – In the midst of their longest homestand in franchise history, the New York Rangers likely can’t wait to hit the road again. Behind a goal and two assists from Paul Gaustad and a 28-save effort from Carter Hutton, the Nashville Predators dealt the Rangers their fourth straight loss at Madison Square Garden via a 4-1 decision. Rich Clune and Matt Hendricks each scored once and assisted on another to help the Predators halt a season-high five-game skid, with David Legwand contributing a pair of helpers to the victory. The Rangers fell to 0-2-1 on their nine-game residency and now have their longest home losing streak since a four-game slide from Feb. 20-Mar. 3, 2011. Rick Nash accounted for the lone New York goal, while Henrik Lundqvist stopped 22-of-25 shots on the evening.

Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) – Kevin Shattenkirk’s power-play marker with 3:02 left in regulation was the winner, as St. Louis clipped Winnipeg, 2-1, at MTS Centre. Alex Steen also lit the lamp and Brian Elliott stopped 20 shots for the Blues, who reached the 20-win plateau by taking their seventh victory in the last 10 outings. Bryan Little scored and Ondrej Pavelec made 18 saves for the Jets, who have dropped three of their last five.

Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Patrick Sharp and Brandon Saad both scored two goals and the Chicago Blackhawks ended the Dallas Stars’ point streak at six games with a 6-2 win on Tuesday night. Michael Kostka and Patrick Kane also scored and Kane had two assists for the Blackhawks, who extended their road winning against the Stars to six games — including two last month — and pushed their NHL-best point total to 49. Antti Raanta had 27 saves for Chicago on the same day the team announced Corey Crawford will miss around three weeks with a lower-body injury he suffered in the first period of Sunday’s win against Florida, which snapped a three-game losing streak for the Blackhawks. Dallas starter Kari Lehtonen gave up four goals on 19 shots before he was pulled 8:20 into the second period. Dan Ellis allowed two goals on 14 shots after that. Antoine Roussel scored both goals for the Stars, whose point streak (3-0-3) included three points against the Blackhawks (1-0-1).

Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) – The Boston Bruins made Jarome Iginla’s return to Calgary a triumphant one, scoring a pair of goals late in the third period to rally for a 2-1 victory over the Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome. Reilly Smith potted the game-winner with 4:33 left to play, a mere 98 seconds after David Krejci recorded the equalizer with the Bruins on the power play. Iginla, the Flames’ all-time leader in goals (525), points (1,095) and games played (1,219), faced the club he spent 16 highly productive seasons with for the first time since Calgary traded its longtime captain to Pittsburgh during last April’s trade deadline. The revered 36-year-old received a warm and rousing ovation from the home crowd during postgame introductions. Jiri Hudler had the lone goal for Calgary, which received 22 saves from Reto Berra in a losing cause.

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) – Jordan Eberle’s power play goal 1:48 into overtime saved two points for the Edmonton Oilers, lifting them to a 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The Oilers coughed up a 4-1 lead over a period and a half, with Jeff Skinner’s goal late in the third tying it for Carolina. But Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk was sent off 19 seconds into overtime, penalized for boarding after hitting Ryan Nugent-Hopkins from behind in the corner to give the Oilers a 4-on-3. Eberle scored on a second-chance shot through the legs of Carolina defenseman Andrej Sekera, who was covering the net on the left side for Cam Ward. Taylor Hall, Nail Yakupov, Jesse Joensuu and Nugent-Hopkins also scored for the Oilers, who moved to 2-1-1 on a five- game homestand. Devan Dubnyk made 24 saves for the win. Tuomo Ruutu, Jordan Staal and Eric Staal also scored for the Hurricanes, who lost their second straight to start a four-game road trip but at least came away with a point after giving up four goals in the first 21:40 of the game.

San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Kyle Okposo tied the game with 37 seconds left and scored the game-winner in the shootout to lead the New York Islanders to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. Thomas Vanek also scored and Kevin Poulin made a career-high 46 saves for the Islanders, who snapped a 10-game skid. Patrick Marleau had one goal and an assist, Joe Pavelski added a goal and Dan Boyle finished with a pair of assists for the Sharks, losers in four straight. Antti Niemi made 26 saves in the setback.
