Halak deflected former teammate Tomas Plekanec’s penalty shot with his right arm after David Backers was whistled for dislodging the St. Louis net. T.J. Oshie flipped the puck into the top right corner of the net to beat Montreal goalie Carey Price for the only successful shootout try by either team. Halak stopped Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher, and Max Pacioretty sent a shot wide on Montreal’s last chance. Halak, who played for the Canadiens from 2006-10, had 25 saves in the game and Alexander Steen scored his NHL-leading 13th goal. Chris Stewart also scored on a deflection for the Blues, who captured their fourth straight win in Montreal and moved to 5-0-1 overall in their last six meetings. Florida forward Scottie Upshall forced overtime with a pair of third-period goals, but tripped Ryan Nugent-Hopkins 32 seconds into the extra session. Arcobello planted himself in the left circle and hammered home a feed from Ales Hemsky behind Jacob Markstrom. Taylor Fedun scored in his NHL debut for the Oilers, who prevailed in a matchup of two teams that entered Tuesday’s play on five-game losing streaks. Devan Dubnyk, back after missing three games with an ankle injury, made 20 saves in Edmonton’s fifth consecutive road win against the Panthers. Markstrom was beaten four times on 27 shots.

After Jordan Staal had tied the game with 52.3 seconds to play in regulation, the Hurricanes took the win in overtime thanks to a turnover by Flyers defenseman Mark Streit. Streit tried to carry the puck into the Hurricanes end through the middle, but was knocked off the puck. Ron Hainsey grabbed the disc in his own end and fired it up the middle to Malhotra, who was behind the defense and went to the backhand before snapping it past Steve Mason for the win. Justin Peters finished the game with 28 stops for the Hurricanes, who had lost five straight coming into the game. Scott Hartnell scored and Mason made 36 stops for the Flyers, who have lost three of four.

St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) – Zach Parise amassed two goals and an assist and the Minnesota Wild pulled away in the third period en route to a 5-1 victory over the Calgary Flames at Xcel Energy Center. Mikko Koivu scored once and assisted on two other goals for Minnesota, which fell behind 1-0 before dominating the rest of the way and concluding a four-game homestand with a third straight win. Three of those tallies came in the final 12 minutes. Josh Harding turned aside 24-of-25 shots in another strong performance between the pipes, with Justin Fontaine and Zenon Konopka also potting goals in the rout. Jiri Hudler’s sixth goal of the season represented the only score for the Flames. Reto Berra stopped just 19-of-24 chances in his second NHL start.

Radim Vrbata and Shane Doan each had regulation goals and Mike Smith came up with 31 saves to help the Coyotes to a fifth consecutive win, the last three of which have come in shootouts. After Tomas Hertl was stopped, Hodgson skated in on net and went back and forth with the puck before slamming on the brakes and snapping the puck into the net. Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford both had a goal and an assist, while Henrik Tallinder and Cody McCormick also lit the lamp for the Sabres, who snapped a four-game slide. Ryan Miller made 47 saves to backstop the victory. Hertl had a goal and an assist, while Marty Havlat, Tommy Wingels and Tyler Kennedy all scored for the Sharks, who have lost three straight games, all after regulation. Antti Niemi made 32 stops in the loss.
