Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) – Mason Raymond tallied a pair of goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs stayed hot with a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild at Air Canada Centre. Raymond scored his first of the game in the second period and added a late empty-netter for Toronto, which won its third straight game. Tyler Bozak and Trevor Smith also scored in the victory. James Reimer, making his first appearance in goal after he was pulled for Jonathan Bernier in the second period of a win over Ottawa on Oct. 5, stood tall between the pipes, stopping 37-of-38 shots. Jason Pominville scored the lone goal for the Wild, who lost in regulation for just the second time this season. Darcy Kuemper allowed three goals on seven shots before giving way to Josh Harding, who turned away all six shots he faced.

Final Score: Buffalo 4, NY Islanders 3 (SO)

Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Tyler Ennis scored the deciding goal during the second round of the shootout to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a long- awaited first victory of the season, a 4-3 come-from-behind decision over the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. The Sabres trailed 3-2 before Marcus Foligno found the back of the net with 2:01 remaining in the third period, and Thomas Vanek and Ennis both converted their shootout opportunities before Ryan Miller officially stopped Buffalo’s season-opening seven-game losing streak with a save on John Tavares. Ennis and Vanek also scored in regulation, while Miller racked up 41 saves prior to stoning two of New York’s three skaters in the shootout. The Islanders were dealt a third consecutive defeat despite goals from Frans Nielsen, Matt Moulson and Matt Martin and a 31-save effort from Evgeni Nabokov.

Final Score: Vancouver 3, Philadelphia 2

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – Ryan Kesler scored a pair of goals, including the deciding tally with 2:25 left in regulation, as the Vancouver Canucks upended the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, on Tuesday. Roberto Luongo stopped 20 shots for the win. Tye McGinn registered his first career two-goal effort for the Flyers, who dropped to 1-6-0 on the year. Steve Mason made 22 stops in the loss.

Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – Patrick Sharp scored in the third round of the shootout to help the Chicago Blackhawks take a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. In the third round, Sharp skated in and faked to the forehand before stuffing a low shot past Cam Ward. Corey Crawford then sealed the win when he swallowed up a Jeff Skinner wrister. Sharp and Marian Hossa scored, while Crawford made 32 stops for the Blackhawks, who have won three straight. Alexander Semin and Ron Hainsey scored for the Hurricanes, who have dropped three straight. Ward finished the game with 34 saves.

Final Score: Tampa Bay 5, Los Angeles 1

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Ryan Malone scored 19 seconds into the game, and the Tampa Bay Lightning never looked back from there. Martin St. Louis had two goals and set up another in the Lightning’s 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings at Tampa Bay Times Forum. Malone, ex-King Teddy Purcell and Ondrej Palat each registered a goal and an assist to back Ben Bishop, who improved to 4-0 this season with a 30-save effort. Jonathan Quick got the start in goal for Los Angeles and was replaced by Ben Scrivens after St. Louis made it 3-0 with 3:38 remaining in the second period.

Final Score: Detroit 2, Columbus 1

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) – Jonas Gustavsson turned aside 36 shots to help the Detroit Red Wings in a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday. Daniel Alfredsson and Todd Bertuzzi each had a goal for the Red Wings, who have won three straight. Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves and Cam Atkinson scored the only goal for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped their past two games.

Final Score: San Jose 6, St. Louis 2

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski recorded power-play goals less than a minute apart in the first period, spurring the still-unbeaten San Jose Sharks to a 6-2 rout of the St. Louis Blues in a tension-filled showdown from Scottrade Center. San Jose went 3-for-7 with the man advantage en route to its sixth consecutive win to start the season, with Patrick Marleau also scoring on the power play in addition to contributing two assists. Joe Thornton also had a goal and two helpers for the Sharks, who dominated much of the contest and opened up a 5-0 lead early in the third period. The victory did come with a cost, however, as Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle was carried off the ice in a stretcher after being checked from behind by Blues center Maxim Lapierre in the first period. Vladimir Tarasenko scored for a fourth straight outing for the previously undefeated Blues, who had opened the 2013-14 campaign with four straight home triumphs. Roman Polak accounted for St. Louis’ other goal. Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak was pulled after two periods upon allowing four goals on 26 shots.

Final Score: Nashville 4, Florida 3

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) – Patric Hornqvist’s power-play goal early in the third period proved to be the eventual game-winner as the Nashville Predators downed the Florida Panthers, 4-3, at Bridgestone Arena. Shea Weber, Mike Fisher and Craig Smith all tallied a goal and an assist for Nashville, which won its second straight tilt for the first time this season. Pekka Rinne stopped 22-of-25 shots in the victory. Jonathan Huberdeau, Marcel Goc and Matt Gilroy netted goals in the loss behind Jacob Markstrom, who surrendered all four goals on 30 shots.

Final Score: Montreal 3, Winnipeg 0

Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) – Carey Price notched his first shutout of the season by turning aside all 36 shots he faced, as Montreal silenced Winnipeg by a 3-0 count on Tuesday at MTS Centre. Brandon Prust and P.K. Subban hit the back of the net in the first period for the Canadiens, who improved to 4-2-0 on the season after completing a 3-1 road trip. Ondrej Pavelec made 22 saves in the setback for the Jets, who have lost four of their last five games.

Final Score: Colorado 3, Dallas 2

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) – Patrick Roy’s playing career is forever intertwined with Mario Tremblay. Now the first-year Colorado head coach shares an NHL record with his former bench boss. Matt Duchene scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second period, and the surprising Avalanche prolonged their amazing start by holding on to edge the Dallas Stars, 3-2, at Pepsi Center. Colorado has run off six straight wins to open the campaign, the second-best start to a season in franchise history. The Avalanche find themselves within striking distance of the 7-0 start by the 1985-86 Quebec Nordiques because of the stellar play of goaltender Semyon Varlamov, who made 39 saves, the last coming just ahead of the final horn on Alex Chiasson from the doorstep. Varlamov preserved the win for Roy, who matched Tremblay for the most consecutive wins to begin a coaching career. Tremblay won his first six games with the Montreal Canadiens in 1995-96 and, of course, is remembered for leaving Roy in net for nine goals against in an 11-1 dismantling at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings on Dec. 2, 1995. A peeved Roy was soon dealt to Colorado and went on to win two Stanley Cups with the Avalanche. Rich Peverley and Cody Eakin scored for Dallas, which has dropped three of its first five games. Dan Ellis, who was riding a four-game winning streak against the Avalanche, stopped 23 shots.

Final Score: Ottawa 4, Phoenix 3 (OT)

Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) – The Ottawa Senators closed out their season-opening six-game road trip on a high note. Cory Conacher scored 2:48 into overtime to lift the Senators to a 4-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes. Jason Spezza completed the fifth hat trick of his career to put the Senators up in the third period, but Mike Ribeiro was credited with a power-play goal with 3:30 remaining to force overtime. In the extra session, Marc Methot sent a diagonal slap pass to below the right circle for a successful one-timer by Conacher. Craig Anderson made 34 saves for Ottawa, which compiled a 2-2-2 mark on its trek. Mike Smith stopped 28 shots for the Coyotes, who returned home after a 3-2-0 trip.
