One game after setting a new franchise record for career shutouts, Jaroslav Halak stopped 26 shots. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews each posted a power-play score and Patrick Sharp picked up a pair of helpers for the Blackhawks, who have dropped two in a row since a season-opening win against Washington. Corey Crawford played well in defeat, making 31 saves.

Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) – Sean Monahan tallied a goal and an assist as the Calgary Flames defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 at Scotiabank Saddledome. The rookie opened up the scoring for the Flames a little less than 10 minutes into the game. Travis Moen coughed up the puck in the neutral zone to Monahan, who advanced into Montreal’s zone and dished a backhand pass over to Lee Stempniak. Stempniak fired a shot off goaltender Carey Price and Monahan was there to tap the rebound into the back of the net. Joey MacDonald stopped 33-of-35 Montreal shots to ensure the victory for the Flames, who continued their home dominance against the Canadiens with a seventh straight win in Calgary. P.K. Subban scored a goal and assisted on Lars Eller’s third period goal, while Price made 22 saves on 25 shots as the Canadiens lost their second game of the season.

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Jeff Carter netted the game-winner 28 seconds into overtime to give the Los Angeles Kings a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday. Mike Richards controlled the puck at the point and ripped a shot on goal. Carter was there to redirect the disc for the game- winning tally. Carter finished with two goals and Dustin Brown add a pair of goals for the Kings, who had dropped back-to-back games entering the contest. Jonathan Quick stopped 22 shots in the victory. Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Bobby Ryan and Milan Michalek scored one goal apiece for the Senators, who fell to 1-0-2 on the season. Craig Anderson made 28 saves in the setback.
