Alec Martinez added a power-play goal later on to sew up the Kings’ sixth consecutive victory, matching a season-high streak set from Dec. 2-14. Quick was lightly tested, but aided the cause by stopping 17-of-18 shots. Ondrej Pavelec kept the Jets in it for much of the way with a 38-save effort, but Winnipeg mustered only Olli Jokinen’s 15th goal of the season in its second home loss in three days.

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Jhonas Enroth made 43 saves as the Buffalo Sabres spoiled the return of Steven Stamkos and debut of Ryan Callahan with a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Marcus Foligno, Tyler Myers, and Cody Hodgson each registered a goal and an assist for the Sabres, who have won four out of five games since the Olympic break. The Lightning could not get much going offensively, even with Stamkos and Callahan in the lineup. Tyler Johnson supplied a late shorthanded goal for the Lightning, who have dropped three straight. Anders Lindback allowed all three goals on 21 shots in his first game since Jan. 30. Stamkos, the Lightning’s newly-named captain, returned to the ice for the first time since Nov. 11 after missing 45 games with a broken right tibia. Callahan came to Tampa Bay in a blockbuster trade that shipped Martin St. Louis to the Rangers hours before Wednesday’s trade deadline.

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) – Rookie Nathan MacKinnon set up Andre Benoit for the game-winning goal with 31.4 seconds left in overtime as the Colorado Avalanche edged Detroit, 3-2, on a night former defenseman Nicklas Lindstrom was immortalized by the Red Wings. Benoit was alone in the left circle and one-timed MacKinnon’s pass from the right side of the net high over Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard. The assist gave MacKinnon a point in 13 consecutive games, passing Wayne Gretzky for the longest point streak by an 18-year-old. Howard stopped 22 shots.

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) – Jonathan Toews and Andrew Shaw both tallied twice, as Chicago trounced Columbus for the 12th consecutive time, 6-1, at United Center. Bryan Bickell and Brandon Bollig also hit the back of the net for the Blackhawks, winners in two of three to keep pace in the race for the Central Division crown. St. Louis beat Nashville by a 2-1 count to remain two points ahead. Brent Seabrook and Marcus Kruger each collected two assists, while Corey Crawford stopped 22 shots. Ryan Johansen provided the lone offense for the Blue Jackets, who saw their three-game win streak halted and have not beaten their former division rivals since a 4-3 decision on Feb. 18, 2011. Sergei Bobrovsky allowed four goals on 18 shots in 32-plus minutes to take the loss. Curtis McElhinney finished the contest with 13 stops.

Miller turned aside 20-of-21 shots to remain unbeaten in a Blues’ uniform, while Ott assisted on one of two St. Louis goals in the club’s 2-1 decision over the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. Magnus Paajarvi recorded the game-winning score with 8:18 elapsed in the second period, with Ian Cole registering a goal and an assist to help the Blues remain two points ahead of rival Chicago for first place in the Central Division. Ryan Garbutt accounted for Dallas’ other marker and Kari Lehtonen made 32 saves for the Stars, who have won two of their last three. Zac Dalpe supplied Vancouver’s lone score and Eddie Lack conceded five goals on 17 shots in the Canucks fourth straight loss. Jacob Markstrom, who was acquired in the trade that sent Roberto Luongo to Florida on Tuesday, made his Vancouver debut at the start of the third and gave up one goal on five shots. The Canucks have now dropped 11 of their last 12.

Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) – Radim Vrbata scored two goals to help Phoenix beat Montreal, 5-2, snapping the Coyotes’ 14-game winless streak against the Canadiens. Shane Doan and Oliver Ekman-Larsson both had a goal and one assist for the Coyotes, who notched their first victory over Montreal since Dec. 9, 1998. The Canadiens had won nine straight and 11 of the previous 14 meetings, with the other three ending in ties. Mike Smith picked up the win with 24 saves, including 11 in a second period that was dominated by Montreal. Andrei Markov and Alex Galchenyuk had the goals for Montreal, which lost in Thomas Vanek’s debut with the club. The Canadiens made a splash before Wednesday’s trade deadline, acquiring Vanek from the New York Islanders, but he was held to one shot as his new team fell to 1-2-0 on its road trip. Peter Budaj allowed five goals on 23 shots in defeat.

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) – Taylor Hall notched the game-winner as the Edmonton Oilers scored three unanswered goals to top the New York Islanders in overtime, 3-2, at Rexall Place. Sam Gagner took the puck off Islanders defenseman Brian Strait in transition through the neutral zone and deked past a sliding defender to fire a shot that deflected off Hall’s stick and past Evgeni Nabokov into the net. Philip Larsen and Ryan Smyth both lit the lamp in the third period and Ben Scrivens turned aside 32 shots in Edmonton’s second straight win. Frans Nielsen and Anders Lee scored for the Islanders, who have lost three of their last four. Nabokov surrendered three goals on 29 shots.

San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Brent Burns scored twice during San Jose’s four-goal third period as the Sharks extended their home dominance over Pittsburgh with a 5-3 win. Joe Pavelski assisted on three San Jose goals and Antti Niemi stopped 19 Pittsburgh shots. Rookie Olli Maatta had two goals for the Penguins, who are winless in their last 11 trips to San Jose (0-9-1 with a tie) since a 5-2 victory on Oct. 22, 1997. Pittsburgh backup Jeff Zatkoff was tested often by the Sharks and finished with 42 saves on 46 shots.
