Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Daniel Carcillo’s goal broke a tie 4:36 into the third period, and the New York Rangers swept the two-game series at Yankee Stadium with a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night. The Rangers went ahead when Carcillo banged home a rebound in the slot. Islanders goalie Evgeni Nabokov had turned away Dominic Moore’s shot from the bottom of the right circle. The Islanders had a couple of close calls with Nabokov on the bench for an extra skater. The best chance belonged to Kyle Okposo, who was alone on the doorstep but missed the net with four seconds remaining. Henrik Lundqvist made 30 saves for the Rangers, who snapped a two-game losing streak with Sunday’s 7-3 outdoor win over New Jersey. Nabokov stopped 32 shots in his first start since he suffered a lower-body injury against Dallas on Jan. 6. The loss was the fourth straight for the Islanders.

Final Score: Edmonton 3, San Jose 0

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) – Ben Scrivens stopped all 59 shots he faced to set an NHL record for saves in a regular-season shutout, as the Edmonton Oilers claimed a 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday at Rexall Place. Making just his fourth start with Edmonton, the 27-year-old Scrivens snapped the record set by Mike Smith on Apr. 4, 2012, when he stopped 54 shots for the Phoenix Coyotes in a 2-0 win over Columbus. Taylor Hall tallied a goal and two assists, Jordan Eberle added a goal and a helper, and Justin Schultz also lit the lamp for Edmonton, which has won three straight on the heels of a six-game slide. Antti Niemi allowed three goals on 27 shots for the Sharks, who have dropped two straight.

Final Score: Chicago 5, Vancouver 2

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) – Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad each registered a goal and an assist during Chicago’s four-goal flurry midway through the second period that boosted the Blackhawks to a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday at Rogers Arena. Chicago trailed 2-0 early in the second, but Marian Hossa, Saad, Toews and Sharp each scored in a 7:41 span to help the Blackhawks snap a four-game slide. Saad added an empty- netter late in the third and Corey Crawford posted 28 saves in the triumph. Chris Higgins and Tom Sestito each scored once, while Roberto Luongo allowed four goals on 39 shots for Vancouver, which has lost three of its last four games.
