Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker – A Legendary Performance
No doubt, you have seen the Nutcracker in one form or the other over the years, especially around holiday times. Perhaps you have watched in on TV, seen your children’s school’s amateur production, or even gone to a local play. You haven’t really experienced The Nutcracker properly however until you’ve seen the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker. This is the version that makes jaws drop, and memories happen. It is currently on tour across the US, so don’t miss out.
The year 2012 marks the Moscow Ballet’s 20th year of performing this masterpiece in the United States, so it makes it a very special year indeed. You will see 40 of the best-trained dancers in the world performing. The costumes are dazzling to the eyes as they are all hand sewn and of the most spectacular colors, and of course the music is as beautiful as ever. New for this year is a dance known as the “Dove of Peace”. The dancers in this scene will almost seem to transform into the bird right before your eyes. There is also a Christmas tree, which keeps growing until it can hardly be contained in the theater.
You will also be treated to the lovely sights of falling snow as you watch Father Christmas, known in Russia as Ded Moroz, and the Snow Madien known as Sneguochka, stand outside their sparkling snow palace. The scenes are all hand painted with meticulous care and all that detail really shows. You may even get to see some puppetry including horse puppets, and perhaps even some cannons that shoot flowers. It is quite the experience!
This is the perfect tradition to help you get into the mood for the holidays, and a wonderful one to share with your family. The basic beautiful story and Tchaikovsky music are still intact, but some new elements will help keep it alive and magical for audiences old and young alike. Start the holiday season off right by getting your tickets to Moscow Ballet‘s Great Russian Nutcracker. Make it a family tradition and you will have another reason to look forward to the end of each year.
