More Details Announced for Broadway’s “Annie the Musical”
It’s a whole gaggle of little girls, but an air of serious talent hangs around them wherever they go. It’s the group that reside in the orphan house in the remake of Annie the Musical that will land on Broadway this fall; and they’re out to impress.
Those girls are: Emily Rosenfeld, who will play Molly; Junah Jang, playing Tessie, who whines even when she sings; Madi Rae DiPietro; Georgi James, who plays the tough Pepper; Taylor Richardson; Jaidyn Young; and Lilla Crawford, who will play the title role. And even though the youngest of them may be just seven years old, and the oldest just twelve, don’t let those baby cheeks fool you. These are complete professionals here, ready to go up against some of the biggest names in Broadway this season.
“People say, ‘How do you get rid of the butterflies?'” says young Junah during lunch at an audition one day. “And I’m like, ‘You don’t have to get rid of them. You just have to put them in formation.'”
Madi Rae chimes in, saying that nervousness may be present, but only temporarily. “You just forget about it,” she says. “You do what you love to do. You get into that part, and then you’re not the person you were before.”
It’s that simple. At least for this crowd.
Playing alongside this group of very talented young women are Katie Finneran (Miss Hannigan,) Anthony Warlow (Daddy Warbucks,) Brynn O’Malley (Grace Farrell,) and Sunny, the fittingly adopted dog who will be playing the role of Sandy. The show will be directed by James Lapine, who’s well-known for his work in Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Falsettos.
Annie the Musical previews at the Palace Theatre on October 3 and officially opens on November 8.
