Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) – Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton left Thursday’s game after being struck in the face by a pitch from Milwaukee Brewers starter Mike Fiers.

Stanton was drilled flush in the left side of his face in the top of the fifth inning and was bleeding as he was lifted onto a stretcher and taken off the field in an ambulance cart.

The Marlins said Stanton suffered facial lacerations requiring stitches, multiple facial fractures and dental damage after undergoing X-rays and a CT scan at a local hospital.

He will return to Miami on Friday for further evaluation.

The pitch was called a strike, so pinch-hitter Reed Johnson was called on to complete the at-bat. He inherited an 0-2 count with runners on the corners.

The next pitch from Fiers was up and in and hit Johnson on the right hand as he was swinging. The umpires ruled it an inning-ending strikeout.

The dugouts and bullpens emptied after Johnson was hit, with Marlins manager Mike Redmond and third baseman Casey McGehee getting ejected.

After warnings were issued to both teams, Miami pitcher Anthony DeSclafani and bench coach Rob Leary were ejected in the sixth after DeSclafani hit Carlos Gomez with a pitch.
