Lewis Black is Back on Broadway with One-Man Show

He’s most famous as The Daily Show commentator known for stirring the pot and getting everyone riled up. And he can’t do an interview without going on a rant about anything from politicians to social media. He’s brought these rants to Broadway before, first in 2004. Now, eight years later he’s returning, this time in Lewis Black: Running on Empty, a show that’s going to highlight politics and pop culture, and what’s wrong with each, and which Black says is going to be his “edgiest work yet.”

Not only is it edgy, it also comes at a perfect time, just before the election. But the candidates really should try to avoid it. Black doesn’t spare a harsh word for either, saying that Mitt Romney is “the whitest man ever” and that President Obama is “so inside of his own head he forgets the rest of us are here.”  Is he a Republican or a Democrat? It doesn’t seem to be either, and if you asked, Black would probably tell you just as much.

But while his show is meant to boil the blood slightly, in a humorous and lighthearted way, it’s also meant as a chance for audiences to vent their own frustrations. Ticketmaster says about the event, “Lewis yells so [the audience doesn’t] have to. A passionate performer who is more pissed off optimism than mean-spirited curmudgeon, he has perfect expressing what the rest of us cannot say in polite company.”

Lewis Black: Running on Empty opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on October 9, and it’s only running for a limited time, from October 10 — October 14. Additional dates have also been added for next weekend, October 19 and 20. Lewis Black tickets are quickly selling out, so get yours today!
