Jeb Burton lands ride with BK Racing in Sprint Cup
Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – Jeb Burton will drive the No. 26 Toyota for BK Racing full-time during the 2015 Sprint Cup Series season, the team formally announced on Monday.
Burton, the 22-year-old son of former Sprint Cup driver Ward Burton, ran a full schedule in the Camping World Truck Series the past two seasons. He has scored one victory (Texas in June 2013), seven top-five finishes and 19 top-10s as well as seven pole wins in trucks.
The upcoming Sprint Cup season begins with the Feb. 22 Daytona 500. Ward Burton won NASCAR’s most prestigious race of the season in 2002.
“I am so thankful for the opportunity that BK Racing has given me,” Jeb Burton said in a team statement. “It has been a dream of mine to race in the Daytona 500 ever since I was 9 years old and I stood with my dad in victory lane. I remember thinking to myself then in 2002, I would like to win the 500 one day. Now I have a chance at making that dream come true. I am looking forward to making the 500, providing the best possible finish I can by running and racing hard every lap this season.
“I also look forward to competing for the 2015 title of (Sprint Cup) Rookie of the Year. Each week, I will be concentrating on finishing on the lead lap and learning as much as possible.”
BK Racing also revealed that Burton’s father will serve as a “team ambassador.” He will join his son in select appearances throughout the season.
