George Strait Announces Farewell Tour
If you want to see George Strait in concert, you better get tickets for his next tour that will run over the next two years. George announced the news at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville on Wednesday that the “Cowboy Rides Away” tour he’s about to embark on will be a farewell tour.
“I’ve decided I’m not going to tour any more after these next two years,” he said. “I kind of always had it in the back of my mind that when I turned 60 it might be the time to start thinking about it.”
Strait celebrated that 60th birthday in May, and also said that he wanted to be at home more often to get to know his new grandson. Add to that the fear that maybe one day he would “show up and nobody else does,” and the iconic country music singer knew it was time.
He plans to do it right on his way out though. He’ll be bringing Martina McBride with him for the first 20 dates of the tour. And for future dates he says, “No telling who might show up.”
The tour starts on January 18, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas and there are currently about 20 more dates scheduled. For a full listing of venues and dates booked so far, you can find them here. Considering that this tour sounds like it’s going to run long though, we can all expect more dates to be added.
But while fans may be disappointed that George is packing in his tour trailer after this one, he reassures them that it doesn’t mean the music stops. He still plans to make records; and he says in 2016 he may look back, regret his decision, and hit the trails once more.
