Eagles’ Mathis out 8 weeks, Barbre placed on IR

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line is suddenly depleted following a 34-17 season-opening win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Guard Evan Mathis and tackle Allen Barbre both left Sunday’s game with injuries and did not return.

Mathis, an All-Pro in 2013, exited the game with a left knee injury. An MRI on the knee showed a sprain that will likely sideline the guard for 4-8 weeks.

Mathis will be placed on injured reserve/designated to return which allows him to practice with the team in six weeks and play in eight.

Barbre, starting in place of the suspended right tackle Lane Johnson, was injured shortly after Mathis with what has been diagnosed as a high ankle sprain. The injury will reportedly require surgery. Barbre and linebacker Najee Goode, who suffered a pectoral injury in the win, were both placed on injured reserve on Tuesday, ending their seasons.

Philadelphia has addressed the depth issue by signing veteran lineman Wade Smith, a Pro Bowler in 2012 with Houston, to help fill the void until Johnson and Mathis return later in the season.

Additionally, the Eagles signed linebacker Emmanuel Acho and offensive lineman Kevin Graf to the active roster from the practice squad.
