What to Expect From Paul McCartney In Concert
Paul McCartney is a living legend in the music world, being one of the two big “creative” members of the Beatles. Over the span of his career, beginning in the 1950s, he has reached a Guinness Book of World Records honor, by having sold over 100 million singles and 60 gold discs. This knighted household name has also written or co-written 188 charted records.
He has been voted as the “Greatest Composer of the Millennium” by the BBC News Online Readers Poll, and created the most covered song in history–a little lamentation called “Yesterday.” However, McCartney’s career is not merely “yesterday.” He is very active today, even at the age of 69. He visits countries all over the world but has a special soft spot for the United States, which no doubt helped him to solidify his status as an international world figure with the Beatles’ iconic Ed Sullivan Show appearance.
His love-hate relationship with Lennon is well documented and continues even today, with McCartney often commenting that he was truly the “hard-edged” Beatle and bossed Lennon around a majority of the time. The bloke also took home 16 Grammy Awards, 8 Brit Awards and even an MTV Video Music Award, proving he’s still hip to the young crowd. (Though this baby-face may still not be as hardcore as say, the Rolling Stones.)
Perhaps his series of sad relationships in recent years makes him a sympathetic figure to us, and reinforces in our mind his baby face image. What is Paul McCartney up to as of late and what can you expect when you see this lovable egg-man in person? (Assuming Lennon was the walrus.)
He still tours the world as he has been doing since 2001, and is accompanied by guitarists Brian Ray and Rusty Anderson, keyboardist Paul Wickens, and Abe Laboriel, Jr. on drums. Starting in July 2011, he is beginning his “On the Run Tour“, which will also include Sir McCartney’s first concert at Yankee Stadium in New York City. He will also play in Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati and Minneapolis, as well as Montreal, Canada. Fans can expect an eclectic mix of his old favorites as well as his groundbreaking new songs.
Don’t miss an opportunity to see Paul McCartney in person, crooning his masterworks. This honorary Doctor of Music (bestowed by Yale University) is a one of a kind performance and an important part of 20th century musical culture. Make plans to see him live!
