Top Grossing Concerts

With concerts and live events becoming more of a “luxury” in today’s economy, we were curious to find out what performers ranked where, with regards to revenue per city and the average cost of one ticket to any given show. We scoured for facts and numbers, attempting to find the most accurate information, and we were pleasantly – and not so pleasantly – surprised at the results. The most factual information came from the Associated Press, and showed that regardless of the economy, we’re still spending hard earned cash on concerts. The top five concert performers are:
1. Paul McCartney

The former Beatle is raking in an average of $4,474,865 per city, with a single ticket averaging $137.28. Rumors abound that another leg of the tour will be announced for 2011.
2. The Eagles

Another long-standing act, The Eagles have embarked on a Fall 2010 tour, to support their latest release “Long Road Out of Eden.” Their averages are an average revenue of $1,918,261 per city, and an average ticket price of $106.47. Stops this fall include October dates in Indianapolis, IN, Atlanta, GA, Louisville, KY and Pittsburgh, PA. Several dates have already sold out, including the upcoming Austin City Limits Festival, but Stub.com still has tickets available!
3. Dave Matthews Band

The summer-touring jam band announced they were taking 2011 off. With fans making sure to see them one last time before their hiatus, average per-city revenue was $1,413,377, with an average ticket price of $52.64. Dave Matthews is doing some solo dates with Tim Reynolds, making acoustic December appearances in Broomfield, CO and Las Vegas.
4. James Taylor/Carole King

The duo hit the road this year, and saw an average of $1,368,303 in revenue per city, and an average ticket price of $80.08. The pair has ended their co-tour, but James Taylor has 2011 shows scheduled for Foxboro, MA and a handful of shows at the Carnegie Music Hall in NYC.
5. Phish

The Grateful Dead-like, summer touring jam band had a banner year. Raking in an average of $1,207,644 per city, and an average ticket price $49.82, the 2010 tour was met with rousing success and plenty of “interesting fans”. One of our Stubbies attended a Phish concert in June, and emphatically noted “it was a scene, man”.
The above, surprisingly, beat out acts such as The Black Eyed Peas, Tim McGraw and Brad Paisley. But we digress – the facts are the facts!
Who are you most excited to see in 2011?
