Untapable comes out of Kentucky Oaks in good shape

Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – Untapable established herself as the leading 3-year-old filly with Friday’s dominating victory in the $1 million Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs.

Saturday morning the filly’s trainer Steve Asmussen pronounced her being fit following the 4 1/2-length win in the 1 1/8-mile stakes.

“She got out walking good and looks good,” Asmussen said. “We’ll just let her rest up from her efforts yesterday.”

There’s been talk of having Untapable run in the $1.5 million Preakness Stakes on May 17 versus males, but Asmussen is not loving the idea. He would rather have 3-year-old colt Tapiture follow his start in the Kentucky Derby with one as well at Pimlico in the middle jewel of the Triple Crown.

“It would be a very wise decision for us to keep them apart,” Asmussen said.

Untapable is owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds who also own Tapiture. Winning jockey Rosie Napravnik will ride Vicar’s in Trouble in the Run for the Roses for Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trainer Mike Maker. Just 19 3-year-olds will start the Kentucky Derby which means Vicar’s in Trouble will start the 1 1/4- mile race from the second post instead of the rail post.
