Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Adreian Payne scored 20 of his career-high 29 points in the first half and No. 1 Michigan State beat Virginia Tech 96-77 on Friday to reach the final of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Virginia Tech, with four all-time wins over No. 1-ranked teams, kept it close until a 15-3 run at the end of the first half gave Michigan State control for good. The Spartans (5-0) advanced to play Oklahoma in the final Saturday at Barclays Center. Virginia Tech will face Seton Hall in a consolation game. Gary Harris had 19 points for Michigan State, Keith Appling scored 13 and Branden Dawson added 12 with 10 rebounds. Payne also had 10 boards. The Hokies (3-2) had won three in a row and were playing the Spartans for the first time. They got 27 points from Adam Smith and 23 from Jarell Eddie.

Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) – Star freshman Andrew Wiggins scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks rolled to an 88-58 win over the Towson Tigers. Andrew White III had 13 points and Wayne Selden, Jr. added 12 for Kansas (4-0), which won its 66th straight home game against a non-conference opponent. The contest was the Battle 4 Atlantis opener for the Jayhawks, who will next play in the Bahamas against Wake Forest on Thanksgiving Day. Jerrelle Benimon paced Towson (3-2) with 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

San Juan, PR (SportsNetwork.com) – Rob Brandenberg scored 18 points and Juvonte Reddic added 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 10 VCU to a 73-67 win over Long Beach State in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Briante Weber added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists and Treveon Graham finished with 12 points and eight boards for the Rams (4-1), who suffered an 18-point loss to Florida State in the first round of the tournament. VCU will face Georgetown in the consolation bracket on Sunday. Branford Jones poured in a game-high 19 points, Mike Caffey scored 15 points and A.J. Spencer finished with 14 for the 49ers (1-5), who will play Kansas State on Sunday.

San Juan, PR (SportsNetwork.com) – Nik Stauskas scored seven of his game-high 26 points in overtime after forcing the extra session with a driving layup late in regulation to lead the 14th-ranked Michigan Wolverines to an 82-80 victory over Florida State to advance to the finals of the Puerto Rico Tip- Off. Stauskas and the Wolverines (4-1) overcame a sluggish start and played from behind for most of the contest. FSU (4-1) led by as many as 16 points early in the second half before Michigan switched to a 1-3-1 zone defensively. Okaro White recorded an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double for Florida State.

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Shabazz Napier scored 27 points, including the go-ahead layup, and No. 18 Connecticut held on to capture the 2K Sports Classic with a 59-58 victory over Indiana on Friday night. The lead changed hands seven times on seven straight baskets in a frenetic finish that saw Connecticut survive a couple of Indiana tries in the final seconds. Ryan Boatright had nine points for the Huskies (6-0), who sweated out two tight games in a row at Madison Square Garden. On Thursday night, Boatright blocked a shot at the buzzer to seal Connecticut’s win over Boston College and get the Huskies into the final. Yogi Ferrell scored 19 points to lead the Hoosiers (5-1) and Will Sheehey added 12.

Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) – Raphiael Putney scored half of his 18 points during a game-deciding second-half run to lead UMass over 19th-ranked New Mexico, 81-65, in the semifinal round of the Charleston Classic. Chaz Williams added 19 points and Cady Lalanne had 16 points and 14 boards for the Minutemen (5-0), who advanced to face the winner of the Davidson/Clemson clash in the championship game on Sunday. Alex Kirk had a game-high 32 points and 11 boards for the Lobos (3-1), who lost for the first time this season.

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Jordan Adams poured in 30 points, Kyle Anderson had UCLA’s first triple-double in 18 years and the No. 22 Bruins beat Morehead State 81-70 on Friday night in the Las Vegas Invitational. Anderson, a sophomore, had 13 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for UCLA’s first triple-double since Toby Bailey’s on Dec. 18, 1995, against Stephen F. Austin. Zach LaVine added 12 points and Travis Wear scored 11 in his first game of the season for the Bruins (4-0). UCLA, which is 4-0 for the first time since the 2007-08 season, will continue play in the Las Vegas Invitational at home Sunday against Chattanooga. They go to Las Vegas next week to face Nevada and Northwestern. Chad Posthumus led Morehead State (4-2) with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Brent Arrington added 17 points and Angelo Warner scored 12 for the Eagles, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.
