Tiger Woods to Play in Memorial Tournament
After missing last year’s Memorial Tournament because of an injury to his knee and Achilles tendon, Tiger Woods will be playing in the tournament that he’s been known to win a few times before. The Memorial Tournament will be held from May 31 — June 3 at Muirfield Village Golf Club this year, and Tiger Woods has just accepted his invitation.
Woods has many Memorial titles already on his long list of winning championships, including those in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2009. He’s won five times out of the ten tournaments he’s played, and he’s never missed falling into the top ten. He’s historical at the tournament for having the lowest scoring average at 69.62, and it’s been quite a money-make for the golfer, too — earning him more than $3.9 million.
Woods will be playing with other elite golfers that have also accepted their invitation, namely Jason Day, Bill Haas, and Mutt Kuchar, who just won the Players Championship on Sunday.
Tiger Woods is definitely back on the scene, especially after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational back in March. And although he’ll most likely never be the Tiger we had grown so accustomed to watching and adoring, acceptance of this invite along with his early season success might prove that he’s back from injury — both personal and physical — and that he’s ready to focus on the game.
He’ll have a chance to prove that when he plays in the U.S. Open, which is being held June 14 – 17, 2012, and a tournament in which he’s a favorite. Tiger will then move on to the Greenbrier Classic, being held July 5 – 8.
