Tanzanite Cat likely for Rebel Stakes
Hot Springs, AR (SportsNetwork.com) – Tanzanite Cat, fifth in the Southwest Stakes, will likely make his next start in Oaklawn Park’s Rebel Stakes on March 15.
Trained by Cody Autrey, Tanzanite Cat was among the contenders in last Monday’s Southwest before fading to fifth in the 12-horse field. Stablemate Paganol finished 12th.
“Both of them came back really good, but I think Paganol just needs some more races and mature,” said Autrey. “But Tanzanite Cat might go in the Rebel or the Northern Spur. We’ve got our options open. We might see Tanzanite Cat in the Rebel, but not Paganol. We’ll let him grow up a little bit, maybe give him 30-40 days.”
Tanzanite Cat, owned by James and Ywachetta Driver. came into the Southwest off a win in Oaklawn’s Smarty Jones Stakes in January. The colt has won two of four starts for $132,000.
