Surprise! Dwight Howard is not Going to the Nets!

Just about everyone in the general public is tired of hearing about Dwight Howard’s wishes about where he wants to be traded to. This week it looked like a deal was finally going to come together that would see Howard going to the Nets, some players going from the Nets to Cleveland, and several Nets players, including Brook Lopez, going to Orlando. Now that deal has also fallen through. And although fans may be losing interest in Howard altogether, this time it actually wasn’t even his fault.

It was when Brook Lopez signed a four-year, $61 million contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets that the deal was officially over. Lopez can now not be traded until January 15; but the new signing isn’t a surprise to everyone. Rob Hennigan, Orlando Magic general manager, said on Wednesday that he didn’t think Howard would be going to the Nets anyway, as “there’s not a whole lot there.”

So where will Dwight Howard be playing next season? Probably with Orlando. Although he’s stated that the Nets were the only team he’d sign a long-term deal with, he’s also been speaking to Houston and the Los Angeles Lakers. After the Steve Nash signing though, any talk about Howard going to the Lakers was essentially over. Hennigan also said that he’s not too worried about making a deal to trade Howard, and that the center could very well still  be part of the Orlando club when training camp begins in the fall.
